The agricultural sector is the backbone of Kenya’s economy contributing approximately 33 percent of Kenya’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The sector employs over 40 percent of the total population and about 70 percent of the rural population.

The majority of people in Narok majorly rely on livestock keeping and a few practice scale farming. Narok County is in a semi-arid region, and the sporadic rains have resulted in the loss of food and income for the population due to animals dying from starvation and crops scorching up during the dry seasons.
